Today is May 15, 2025. That makes me 8 days post op. Not much has happened in the last few days. Except: acceptance and an upward spiral have arrived.

Right after surgery I was in a terrible mood – the stupid crutches, the stupid pain, I had so many plans for the summer, everything sucks, blah blah blah. But for the past 3–4 days, I’ve come to terms with it and I’m now handling the situation well.

Cooking takes forever, showering is a seriously exhausting task, and I have to pre-plan every trip to the mailbox – I just don’t care anymore. I can laugh again and mentally focus on other things.

I’d love to go back to work, because I really enjoy my job, but I need to keep my leg elevated for hours – otherwise, the pain returns immediately.

There are a few organizational things that have been sorted by now:

- the switch to the other medical practice is nearly complete

- I can finally submit the receipts and bills to the insurance

- today I’m getting a PS5 from a friend

- and so on

Why I’m switching medical practices:

After the injury in Germany, I was taken directly to the nearest hospital in Switzerland, which was a requirement from my accident insurance. But usually, I’m treated at a sports medicine center – real professionals – including team doctors for Swiss handball, ice hockey, and others. The chief physician there is a virtuoso when it comes to Achilles tendons and travels the world regularly with the Swiss Olympians. They treated my injured rotator cuff before and I was extremely satisfied.

I always thought you go to the hospital and then get transferred to your general practitioner. That’s not the case here – the surgeon takes care of the entire healing process. During a phone call I was able to explain my plan to him, and he agreed. He’ll forward all the documents and info to the new place – thank you.
